Only Connect

“Only connect.” – E.M. Forster, Howard’s End

So I spent a long time asking
what was important and necessary
about buying machines to have friendships with
until I realized they were all for making connections.
Cars, baritone saxophones, this iPad that keeps
making an ostentatious entrance, none of it
matters without someone to complete the chord,
to meet you in the middle.

So why not skip the middleman? I’ve asked,
and the only problem with that, with asking everyone
to just be in my backyard at a certain time for
group hugs and ice cream
Is that we need filters, curation.
When we stand beside someone to say
Whoa, that’s what it’s all about, bro.
unfortunately there has to be something specific
to focus the what and it’s and even the all.
